Welcome to the information site for the new Economics and Commerce Building. This page will be updated regularly with key information and pictures of the new building, together with architectural aspects and plans.
The Faculty of Economics and Commerce is one of the most prestigious faculties at the University of Melbourne, with strong growth projected across its student and staff numbers over the next five years. The Faculty has nurtured and developed an enviable alumni base; which spans political, entrepreneurial, industrial and academic circles. Continued growth over the last ten years has seen the Faculty expand both its academic programs and student numbers so much so, that we will now also be increasing our physical profile, to include new pemises in the University Square Precinct in 2009.
The new building will be located at 198 Berkely Street in Carlton. The building will offer state of the art facilities and services for the Economics and Commerce student body and also the wider University community. Comprising 13 levels it boasts a variety of teaching and open access laboratories facilities, lecture theatres, office spaces and breakout consultation spaces. The building will be have a five star energy rating, including a chilled beam technology cooling system.
Designed by architects Meitier3 the new building is expected to be completed in 2008. One of the premier facilities in the new building will be a 409 seat lecture theatre (pdf 176KB) located in the basement level, with a smaller 100 seat lecture theatre to be located on level one of the building.
