Bachelor of Commerce

A history of achievement

The Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) has been taught at the University of Melbourne since 1925. The degree has long been the preferred choice of undergraduate business students and many of our graduates have gone on to play leading roles in Australian business and public life.

In 2008 commerce students will enrol in the New Generation Bachelor of Commerce which offers exciting changes to emphasize breadth of study as well as depth. The New Generation degree offers the same options for specialised study and will remain a fully accredited pathway into the accounting and actuarial professions. However, the program will also feature experiences to equip graduates for leadership roles in a rapidly changing world, including international study programs, practical work experience and community leadership.

Bachelor of Commerce (Honours)

The honours year is an additional (fourth) year of specialised study in one or two of the following disciplines: accounting, finance, actuarial studies, economics, management, and related areas. It is an integrated program with small classes and an emphasis on research and specialised subject areas.

The honours degree is an entry qualification for a masters degree and a PhD within Australia or overseas. An honours degree with good grades also assists students in obtaining scholarships to undertake higher degrees. BCom Honours graduates are also highly sought after for top career placements and enjoy enhanced career opportunities.

The honours year is open to commerce students and all double degree commerce students. Graduates of other institutions are also welcome to apply.

Community Access Program (CAP) - Single Subject Enrolment

The Community Access Program (CAP) opens up study opportunities so that everyone has a chance to experience the benefits of expert tuition at the University of Melbourne.

CAP provides an excellent opportunity if you:

CAP students attend the same classes as degree students during semester and enjoy borrowing rights at the University libraries.

Students may apply to transfer to the Bachelor of Commerce either from other University of Melbourne degrees, or from a degree at another institution.

Cross-Institutional Study (Incoming)

Students enrolled in a degree at another institution who wish to undertake subject/s at the University of Melbourne for credit towards their degree at their home institution should apply directly to the Faculty of Economics and Commerce. Cross-Institutional Study (Outgoing)

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Commerce double degree who wish to undertake subject/s at another institution for credit towards their degree at Melbourne should apply directly to the Faculty of Economics and Commerce. Credit policy

Students who wish to obtain credit for previous study, including students transferring courses, must do so at the time of application. Please refer to the Faculty of Economics and Commerce credit policy.

Access Melbourne
