Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace (EOWW)
One of the roles of the Faculty's Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace (EOWW) Committee is to provide support and encouragement to female students to continue their education at honours and postgraduate levels. We endeavour to do this in a number of ways, including:
- Encouraging women to do honours via our role in the organisation of the Faculty's honours information session (which is to ensure that women are well-represented as speakers in this forum);
- Organising information sessions for potential post-graduate students in which successful postgraduate women speak and there is an opportunity to interact with female faculty members;
- Encouraging interactions with appropriate female role models. For example by seeking applications from women of excellence as part of the Faculty's Visiting Scholars' Programme and suggesting female speakers for the Faculty's public lectures;
- Endeavouring to have women well-represented as lecturers at third and fourth-year levels;
- Ensuring that postgraduate women's development needs are met by, for example, encouraging participation in national and international conferences and providing mentoring through the publication process.
Suggestions on how to further encourage women to continue to post-graduate study in the Faculty are welcome.
