What can a course adviser help me with?
Course advice appointments are available to help you with course-related enquiries, for example course structure and requirements.
Our staff will be also be able to advise you of your options in terms of potential career outcomes and progression into postgraduate qualifications at the University, as well as providing information about the full range of options available to you at the undergraduate level. On occasion, if you need detailed advice relating to a specific discipline we may need to refer you to another Student Centre.
There are some types of queries course advisers cannot assist with, for example:
For in depth career advice please contact the University Careers and Employment service;
For advice on professional accreditation, please contact the organisation from whom you are seeking the accreditation (for example, the CPA, ICAA, NIA or IAA). Some additional information on membership of professional bodies can be found in the Course Planning Guide.
Have you read the Course and Subject Handbook?
Before your appointment you should ensure you have read the Course and Subject Handbook thoroughly. The answers to many students' questions are available in the Handbook. You may find that you do not need to see a course adviser after reading the Handbook. In this case, don't forget to cancel your appointment!
Quick question?
If you have a quick question you can email a course adviser at commerce-courseadvice@unimelb.edu.au. Don't forget to include your student id number.
Do you need your points checked?
If you have already completed a substantial part of your course or if you are in your penultimate semester it may be time to check that you are on track to complete the requirements of the BCom or BCom double degree. If you would like a points check please complete the following request for a points count form (PDF, 54kb) and submit it at the Commerce Student Centre, ground floor, of the Babel Building.
Once your form has been assessed by a course adviser it will be posted to your mailing address.
Please ensure both your term and permanent address are kept up to date via the Student Portal.
Please note due to pending results, points count forms will not be accepted during the following periods in 2008:
Monday 2 June - Thursday 3 July
Monday 3 November - Thursday 4 December
Availability of course advice appointments

Course advice appointments are very popular and availability may be limited. Please ensure you cancel your appointment if you are unable to attend.

| 14 July - 8 August | Appointments available most days of the week | Owing to high demand, appointments normally fill up very quickly during this period. It is recommended only students who have concerns about their results and/or questions about their Semester 2 subject selections attend these appointments. |
