Subject Selection for 2008
Online subject changes
You will be able to amend your Semester 2 subject selections via the Student Portal between 14 July and 6 August.
Deadlines for withdrawal
Make sure you check the 'Studies tab' in the Student Portal for deadlines for course and subject changes to ensure that if you wish to withdraw from a subject you can do so without financial or academic penalty. You can also check subject census dates via the subject fee calculator on the Student Administration website.
Fees
Changes to the number of points in which you are enrolled overall will affect your HECS/CSPs/FEE liability and may affect the amount of Amenities and Services Fees that you owe. If you are concerned about whether you have fees owing then you can check your outstanding fees online at https://sis.unimelb.edu.au/cgi-bin/invoice.pl.
Further information on fees is available from the Student Administration website.
Online subject selection trouble-shooting
The Online Subject Selection system is accessed via the Student Portal. It provides feedback in response to the approval of your submitted plan. It is expected that you will respond promptly to this feedback by submitting a new subject selection request if appropriate.
Receipt Number
As your receipt number is the only proof that you have submitted a subject plan it is crucial that you record this and keep it in a safe place in case of any discrepancy at a later date. If you do not receive a receipt number then you have not successfully completed the subject selection process.
Check your emails
You will be notified via your University email account of any problems with your subject selections, so it is essential that you check your email regularly and keep your account under quota.
What to do if your plan is not approved
You will receive an automatically generated email to your student email account the day after submitting subject changes. If your plan is not automatically accepted you should read the error messages carefully and amend your plan if required (see below). If in doubt, wait for your plan to be checked by a course adviser. A course adviser will look at your subject selections and email you within 3 working days to advise you if you need to take any further action. You should fix any problems with your enrolment immediately so that your enrolment and timetable can be finalised straight away.
Please note the subject selection system cannot always calculate the points of your current enrolment, and does not recognise exemptions.
If you believe the system has rejected your subjects incorrectly, DON'T PANIC. Remember, a course adviser will check your plan and email you to let you know if you need to take any further action. YOU DO NOT NEED TO CONTACT THE FACULTY unless you do not receive an email after 3 working days and your plan has not been approved.
